Koinange Street

In 1906, a newly elected Governor made an appeal to the Secretary of State, Winston Churchill to consider relocating the capital away from where it sat due to its inadequate drainage system given Nairobi’s swampy heritage. Lieutenant Colonel Sir J. Hayes Sadler’s appeal wasn’t followed through nor considered but the street named after him proved to be one of the city’s booming areas when it came to biashara. That was then. Today, Koinange street is one of Nairobi’s business streets with large modern buildings and a four lane road.
